Vantaa City Museum's new exhibition makes visitors sweat
On September 14, the starting pistol will go off to launch Vantaa City Museum's new Ready, Steady, Go! exhibition. The functional exhibition tells about children and teens’ sports in Vantaa.
The tour of the exhibition addresses how the sparkle to begin a sports hobby begins and where to find one’s own sport. What does team spirit mean and what kind of memories practice sessions and tournaments entail? What does success taste like - or bitter defeat? Also luck and misfortune have roles of their own in a sports performance.
Vantaa athletes, coaches, as well as parents and supporters of children engaged in sports were interviewed for the exhibition. What is really different about the exhibition, however, is its functionality.
“Visitors get to sweat among different tasks. In addition, you can get into the feeling of the exhibition, for example, by enjoying the locker-room music, or by putting on equipment used in various sports,” describes curator Maiju Hautamäki, when describing the contents of the exhibition.
The Ready, Steady, Go! Exhibition presents dozens of different sports, but one must bear in mind that the exhibition space is limited. The spectrum of sports will be supplemented with the help of guiding and events. Different guiding packages have been planned for, for instance, school groups and bachelor parties.
“We wish to make the visit to the exhibition an experience that promotes both physical and mental wellbeing. In addition, we aim at one million steps taken during the opening of the exhibition!” Hautamäki challenges visitors to the museum.
Opening and supplementary events
The opening of the exhibition will be celebrated on September 14, from 11:00 to 19:00. The program will be updated in Vantaa Event Calendar.
The start to the supplementary events of the exhibition will take place during the sports week, on September 24. There will be, to name just a few events, an outdoor gym, block league, and introduction to various sports. The event is arranged in cooperation with the museum, Vantaa Sports Services, and Vantaa sports clubs.
